This blog was begun as a companion to TechTrade Asia, itself an outlet for news, trends and other insights in Asian technology.
WorkSmart Asia is about news, trends, products and services that impact people in a business environment in the Asia Pacific and the Middle East regions. Central Asia is occasionally featured.
This blog covers news and trends that may be of interest to startups and small to micro businesses as well as lifestyle matters in the professional context.
I blog for instance about:
- Developments with various companies that an employee can mention as something his or her company might want to adopt (wellness campaigns, flexiwork schemes etc)
- What events colleagues may want to attend together or invite customers and partners to (concerts, runs, charity fund-raisers, lunch promotions)
- What events companies might want to sponsor, and corporate gifts
- What might useful information for MICE organisers (dining, venues, events, travel, accommodation, tourism),
- What impacts a professional personally (beauty, fragrances, fashion, health and fitness, literature, further education, management, career and human resource tips, technology gadgets, public transportation, cars, business travel)
- What may impact business success (economic conditions, grants, training, small business technology)
I am open to a wide range of other topics so long as I can find a relevant angle. Government decisions, industry rankings, business and market trends may also appear here. Kids and kitchens are challenging. I can blog about managing work-life balances and how to monitor the home while at work, and pantry equipment is also relevant however.
As resources are limited this blog is not likely to be first with the news, nor can it provide a comprehensive overview for the small business or professional reader. Editorially, you might say WorkSmart Asia provides an eclectic perspective to help individuals succeed through a personal curation of news items.
WorkSmart Asia is targeted at those who work in an office environment, entrepreneurs, startups and small businesses.
Although there is an option for receiving stories by email on the site, this is third-party technology and I don't get details of these readers, hence am unable to provide a breakdown of the demographics of readers beyond the overviews that Google Analytics provides (please ask).
This blog is updated at least once a week and may feature up to four posts per day. There are days when there are no posts. Mondays are the best days to visit.
I may share the events I cover in person on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, or live-tweet them.
Blog posts from WorkSmart Asia are occasionally referenced in sister blogs such as TechTrade Asia. Links to them may be tweeted and/or mentioned on Facebook. Appointments may be shared on LinkedIn.
Posts are also shared on Google+, either on my personal Google+ account, my professional Google+ account, or both.
Seasonally, I am interested in blogging about corporate promotions and events related to New Year's Day, Chinese New Year, Earth Hour, Earth Day, Secretaries' Day (Administrative Professionals' Day), Eid (Hari Raya), the Mid Autumn Festival, and Christmas.

There are currently no plans to charge to include content in this blog, though things could change in the future. As such, I do not work on the blog full-time as I do have to pay my bills through other means.
This is also why I don't do interviews, am unlikely to attend events which require a taxi to get to, or call in for conference calls - each requires more time and expense than makes sense for a free blog.
There is no charge for appearances.
Rate Card 2017
I do not have a formal media kit or rate card since coverage is free at this time. As such, sponsored content is not accepted. In the future, sponsored content could potentially result from face-to-face interviews, article contributions, adapted or directly reproduced from materials provided, with hyperlinks to the sponsor's online properties. A more detailed price for sponsored content will be developed if and when the business model evolves.
I've created tech, B2B and B2C content in journalism and in public relations. I've also lived in Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Oman.
What I can do
I'm based in Singapore, and happy to accept press releases by email for consideration. I cover events in person occasionally. I do visit the wires and the newsrooms of various companies on occasion as well. The blogging process for WorkSmart Asia is explained here.
There may be more Singapore-based content as I am based in Singapore but content from anywhere else in Asia, the Pacific or the Middle East is welcome.
The number of press releases and invitations to press events that I received in 2016 was much higher than in 2015. There is basically no way I can feature that many announcements, so no promises. Coverage depends on a combination of relevance, timing, and whether I have the time to blog. Events that I cover in person do get priority, but coverage again depends on relevance.
Press releases which are a week old or more are unlikely to be featured, though I sometimes queue posts for a future date. This is usually because there are too many posts about the same company or the same type of posts (surveys, case studies etc) are appearing in the same week. I may blog about mergers and acquisitions but typically not about financial results. Please note that posts may be updated with pictures and links etc after publication.
Bylined article contributions are not accepted though this could change in future.
